Stay in Jamestown to Spot the New Roger Tory Peterson Mural
Jamestown native Roger Tory Peterson authored the modern field guide to birds.
Artist Chuck Tingley created a massive mural off Washington Street in Jamestown called “Take Flight” featuring Peterson with a Baltimore oriole, northern cardinal, osprey, barn swallow, great green macaw, eastern bluebird, northern flicker, dovekie, American flamingo, mourning dove, barn owl, and a penguin.

Paint CHQ: Explore New Murals in Falconer, Sherman, Westfield
The new Paint CHQ project focuses on the vital role public art plays in beautifying communities while uniting residents, visitors, and businesses. Artists created three murals in 2025 with two more planned for 2026.
Located just east of the city of Jamestown, the village of Falconer features a sprawling new mural on the side of the State Lanes bowling alley. Created by muralist Mandi Caskey of Columbus, Ohio, the mural depicts Falconer’s history and identity, highlighted by a large falcon. Grab a coffee and a treat across the street at PersNikkity Pies and shop at West Main Mercantile just a short walk away.

Take a country cruise to Sherman, where you will find another mural on the Cornerstone Restaurant. Artists Emily Ding of Houston and Justin Suarez of Rochester constructed this massive celebration of nature and wildlife. Take some pictures, visit local shops, grab a bite to eat, and stretch your legs on the adjacent Rails to Trails.

Before visiting the third Paint CHQ mural in Westfield, you may wish to make a couple of stops to view more public art.
- Just southwest of Sherman, Findley Lake offers multiple murals for your viewing pleasure in a peaceful lakeside setting. Check out the artwork on the side of Twin Docks – by land or by lake. Cross the street to view another mural on the Findley Lake Fire Department building. Artist Ehren Knapp created both murals. Browse several local shops in the immediate vicinity before you hit the road.
- Stop in Mayville on Chautauqua Lake to view two murals, one at 99 Ash Street called “Greetings From Chautauqua Lake” by Vincent AJ Alejandro and another at 78 Water Street.
Head north to Lake Erie Wine Country, where you will find another Paint CHQ Mural at Grace & Abe’s brew pub in Westfield. Dom Laporte of DRIFT Mural Co. out of Ottawa, Ontario created the mural, called “Where the Vines Meet.” The vibrant display celebrates the area’s natural beauty and the rich history of the Lake Erie grape belt. In fact, Chautauqua County is the largest U.S. grape-cultivating region east of the Rockies and the largest global Concord grape growing region.

New Murals of Chautauqua Map
The murals above represent only a selection of the public art in Chautauqua County.
Paint CHQ is partnering with the CHQ Chamber to launch a new “Murals of Chautauqua” interactive trail map, available through the Bandwango Passholder Experience App. The app serves as an interactive digital passport, allowing users to explore 23 murals throughout Chautauqua County, discover the stories behind the artwork, find out more about the artists, and travel from community to community while supporting local businesses and attractions.
No download is necessary to use the app, and as an incentive to use it, those who check in at any of the 23 mural sites will be eligible for a 2025 Paint CHQ t-shirt! Access the Mural Map at Go.CHQChamber.org.
