True American: Prohibition Era at Fenton History Center
67 Washington Street, Jamestown, NY 14701
The Fenton History Center presents, a first of its kind event - True American: Prohibition Era.
Hit TV Show New Girl made all of its viewers wonder... how exactly do you play "True American"?? Even the cast members later said they weren't sure what the rules were, and the scripts only read "They play True American" so while we know that it's U.S. History meets life-sized Candyland, and the floor is LAVA, that's about all we can be sure of because the game itself was largely improvised...
UNTIL NOW!
Instead of "snippets of random American History," we have developed a version of the game that requires players to interact with each other, moving across the lawn at Walnut Grove by answering general Prohibition Era trivia AND local history trivia to successfully round the board, drink from the "KingPin's Cup," and END PROHIBITION!
The board will be laid out on the grounds of the Fenton History Center with the game being played rain or shine. Board tiles are provided, as well as your "pawns" (drinks), but each player will want to bring a piece of lawn furniture to act as their "safe house." Prohibition-themed costumes and creativity are strongly encouraged!
Please note, as we are part of the City Parks Department, and the Fenton family were Temperists, this will be a non-alcoholic, sober version of the game - which means that this is a family-friendly event!
