Power Ballad at Fredonia Opera House Cinema Series

The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of “Power Ballad” on Sat., July 18, and Tues., July 21, at 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.

When Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves — even if it means risking everything he cares about.

The Post (NZ) calls the film “a well put-together yarn. It is funny as hell at times, but there's a bit of grit and substance to it too.” The Hollywood Reporter calls it “a little bit familiar, a little bit unexpected and utterly, thrillingly satisfying.” The Times (London) calls it “solid, sweet and smartly crafted entertainment.” Rated R for some drug use and language, “Power Ballad” runs one hour, 38 minutes.

Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening.
