The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” on Sat., June 13, and Tues., June 16, at 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.
Starring Michael Jackson’s nephew as his legendary uncle, “Michael” tells the story of Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world. Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins.
CinemaDebate calls the film “a showcase of what made MJ the king of his medium.” AARP Movies for Grownups says the film “excels in capturing the ebullience of the early days for this Mozart of Motown.” The Detroit News notes “Jaafar Jackson gives (the film) its pulsating a heartbeat.” ScreenRant says “‘Michael’ is a masterclass in what a biopic should be. Energetic, sincerely funny, and dedicated, at the very least, to bringing the style and voice of Michael Jackson to life on the big screen.” Rated PG-13 for smoking, language, and some thematic material, “Michael” runs two hours, 10 minutes.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member. The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Bank.
