The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of the survivalist adventure tale, “Heart of the Beast,” on Sat., Nov. 7, and Tues., Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.
After a harrowing plane crash, Special Forces veteran James Belmont (Brad Pitt) and his combat dog, Odin, find themselves stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Together, they are forced into a brutal fight for survival against the elements. From acclaimed filmmaker David Ayer, Heart of the Beast is an intense adventure thriller that explores the unbreakable bond between a man and his best friend as they face their greatest battle yet.
Critic Peter Travers calls the film “a survival story filled with fun, ferocity and genuine feeling. And the dog does not die!” Rolling Stone calls it “hypermasculine cinema, perfect for the stoic man in your life who’d rather face down a pitiless Mother Nature than talk about his relationship with his mother.” The Hollywood Reporter notes “‘Heart of the Beast’ is actually a love story, and one of the most moving to come along in a long time. That it’s a love story between a man and his dog doesn’t at all detract from its emotional impact.” Rated PG-13 for some language, peril, bloody/injury images, and violence “Heart of the Beast” runs one hour, 41 minutes.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member.
