Hadestown – The Musical at Fredonia Opera House

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center will present the live theater capture of the hit musical Hadestown, which won eight Tony Awards in 2019 including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, as part of Arts in the Afternoon on Sat, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m.

The genre-defying new musical blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale. Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back.

Captured live on film in London, this production features the five original principals of the Broadway company: Reeve Carney (Orpheus), Eva Noblezada (Eurydice), André De Shields (Hermes), Amber Gray (Persephone), and Patrick Page (Hades).

Sill running on Broadway, the musical won eight Tony Awards: Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for De Shields, as well as the awards for Lighting Design, Scenic Design, Sound Design, and Orchestrations.

This production runs approximately two hours, 20 minutes, with no intermission.
