Crafted in Clay: Fluvanna & Southern Chautauqua County's Pottery Heritage
220 E 2nd St., Jamestown, NY 14701
Join the Fluvanna Community Historical Society and the Pearl City Clay House for an evening exploring the rich pottery heritage of Fluvanna and southern Chautauqua County.
Historian Vince Martonis will share the story of our region's early potteries, their vital role in the development of our communities, and showcase examples from his remarkable collection of 19th-century pottery from Chautauqua.
Following the presentation, you can try your hand at the craft by participating in an optional hands-on pottery workshop where you will recreate a historic pottery piece of your own using clay sourced from Fluvanna.
Open to all, the history talk is free, and the optional hands-on pottery workshop includes a modest fee to cover the cost of materials, kiln firing, instruction, and locally sourced clay.
Discover how generations of local potters transformed Fluvanna's clay into objects of daily use and beauty, then create pottery of your own inspired by the craftsmen whose work helped shape our region.
