Light The Lake
NY 14750
Celebrate Independence Day with one of Chautauqua Lake’s most cherished summer traditions: Light the Lake, the Chautauqua Lake Association’s annual community flare lighting. Each July 4th at 10:00 p.m., residents and visitors line the 42-mile shoreline with glowing red safety flares, creating a brilliant ring of light that reflects across the water and unites the entire lake community.
This long-standing tradition, now more than 40 years old, can be enjoyed from any point along the shoreline—public parks, lakeside restaurants, docks, or by boat—offering a memorable and distinctly Chautauqua Lake way to mark the Fourth of July.
This event is ideal for families and holiday gatherings, boaters and waterfront visitors, photographers, and anyone looking for a signature Chautauqua Lake tradition.
Flares are sold by the Chautauqua Lake Association at local retailers, with proceeds supporting lake maintenance and stewardship efforts.
