Chautauqua Lake, lying southeast to northwest across the county at an elevation of 1,308 feet above sea level, is one of the highest navigable lakes in the nation. Chautauqua Lake is approximately 17 miles long and 2 miles wide. The lake host tournaments and is popular for walleye, bass, and muskellunge fishing. There are public boat launches and shoreline fishing at several spots around the lake.
The public boat launches can be found at Prendergast Point, Bemus Point, Long Point State Park, Village of Mayville park and Village of Lakewood park.
It's maximum depth is 78 feet making it popular for fishing tournaments and boating events as well as leisure sports.
